Mop Top Shop Summer Science & Technology
Camp Finale!

The Mop Top Shop celebrated its first Mop Top Shop Summer Science & Technology Camp Finale on Sunday, July 19, 2009, and invited all to our Mop Top Shop End-of-Camp Program where the community got to see what our campers did during Sessions I, Adobe Photo Shop; Session II, HTML & Dreamweaver; & Session III, Adobe Flash & Animation. Our students produced some excellent work and we wanted our families, friends, community and supporters to come out and give support for their hard work. Everyone had an opportunity to see the educational investment these children and their families made during their summer break. Speakers included Donald McCoy, Program Manager for IBM's Multicultural People In Technology Project Office in Research Triangle Park, NC; Anthony Green, parent; Dajshia Marshall, student speaker and member of the Raleigh Girls Club, Raleigh, NC; as well as the surprise guest, "Stormy," mascot for the Carolina Professional Hockey Team, Carolina Hurricanes.

The Mop Top Shop campers learned and explored the latest computer-related technologies and software applications relevant to web design. Using hands-on learning activities and educational technologies, students learned the basics of webpage design and publishing to design web pages using HTML and Dreamweaver; created basic animations with Adobe Flash; and designed and edited photographs with Adobe Photo Shop, a powerful software application used by professional for photo-editing and design. In addition, students received hands-on technology demonstrations and activities that they incorporated into projects.

Objectives of the Mop Top Shop Summer Camp:

Students participated in discussions and received one-on-one feedback as well as friendly and constructive critiques as they learned by sharing and evaluating their work with the instructor and fellow campers. Mop Top campers brought wonderful ideas, artwork, photographs, creativity and imagination to this exciting camp and we look forward to upcoming educational and fun events for children! Again, thank you for all of your support.
