Jackie Johnson is the President & Founder of Mop Top Shop, Inc., and the creator, designer, and illustrator of “Mop Top” the “Hip Hop” Scientist Celebrates African-Americans in the Sciences' website and characters. She is also the designer and creator of the "Mop Top" the "Hip Hop" Scientist mascot. Mrs. Johnson is a national award-winning graphic designer, having received numerous design awards while working at IBM as well as being published and receiving an Excellence Award in PRINT, a national graphic design publication. In 2007, she was a workshop presenter at the NC Teaching Fellows Junior Conference and a Bessie Coleman Foundation 2007 Honoree, receiving a Certificate of Congressional Recognition from the 18th Congressional District of Texas for the Mop Top Shop educational website.
Ms. Johnson has over 25 years of professional experience as a graphic designer. She received both her Bachelors degree in Visual Design and her Masters degree in Multidisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Education (Curriculum & Instruction), from North Carolina State University. In addition, she received certifcates from the College of Managements' Executive Education Academy, NCSU, and the School of Communications Arts, Raleigh, NC. Ms. Johnson is presently a part-time instructor at Wake Technical Community College and owns a graphic design business in Raleigh, NC. She sincerely enjoys motivating others and is frequently invited to speak and present the Mop Top Shop and Mop Top the Hip Hop Scientist. Her passion is to make learning fun and enjoyable for kids and adults as well as educate and bring technology to those with limitied accessability to technology. She believes whole-heartedly that all children can and must be successful!
